In the small town of Nordestina, Bahia, a cyclist named Meire Luce Andrade Abreu recently stumbled upon a surprising discovery during her regular ride: an abandoned puppy in need of care.
Meire, without a second thought, decided to rescue the little dog by placing him snugly in her shirt pocket—a gesture reminiscent of a mother kangaroo carrying her joey.
She shared this heartwarming tale with Amo Meu Pet, introducing us to the pup now affectionately named Thor.
Known for her passion for cycling, Meire often hits the roads around her city, braving the elements regardless of the weather. To her, cycling is more than just a hobby; it’s a vital balm for both her physical and mental well-being.
Just about a week ago, under a cloudy sky, Meire set out for her usual ride. During this journey, she encountered the lonely pup.
Although her cycling companion suggested they return later with proper arrangements, Meire was adamant about helping immediately.
“No! There’s no way I’m going! I’m taking him immediately!” she told her friend, determined to provide the pup with a safe haven.
With care and compassion, Meire nestled the tiny dog into her cyclists’ jersey pocket and continued her ride, satisfied with her decision to help.
Thor, named after the Norse god of thunder, now has a safe home and on the day of his rescue, his name became a fitting tribute to the day’s stormy weather.
A visit to the vet confirmed that Thor was in good health and ready to start new beginnings. He now thrives in his new family, complete with four canine siblings, who have quickly become his new playmates.
An advocate for animal welfare, Meire encourages others to adopt or support animals in need. She emphasizes, “Adopting needs to be for love, since kids have feelings and know when someone likes them or not.”
