Hugo Leiza and his friends were deeply moved when they learned of a neglected puppy, malnourished and chained up in a yard not far from their Miami home.
The group decided to take matters into their own hands, even if it meant bending the rules to rescue the dog.
Their mission began with a visit to the Liberty City location, where the puppy was tethered to a tree. His fragile frame and protruding ribs were visible beneath loose skin.

As they approached, the dog initially barked but soon allowed them to come near. They offered him food, which he quickly devoured.
Just then, the residents of the house arrived. Leiza and his friends hurried to the front of the home and engaged them in conversation.
“What’s going on with the dog?” Leiza asked.

The reply was disheartening: “It’s my nephew’s dog. He left him behind when he moved out three months ago.”
And so began the journey of Ganesh, the dog named after the Hindu god known for removing obstacles and bestowing good fortune.

The group was overjoyed to see Ganesh relish the freedom to walk and run, a simple pleasure he had been denied for so long. In a YouTube video shared by the rescuers, Alex Carvalho expressed the joy of witnessing Ganesh’s newfound freedom.
That day marked the beginning of a brighter future for Ganesh. He received a thorough bath and a coconut oil treatment, enjoying affection and care that had previously been missing in his life.

Recognizing the need for expert help, the group reached out to animal control but refrained from filing a report, fearing Ganesh’s fate was uncertain.
Instead, they got in touch with Good Karma Pet Rescue, known for their expertise in aiding animals in need.

“This is what they do,” Leiza noted. “They are experienced in rescuing dogs.” The rescue assured Ganesh a chance at a new life. While he has numerous vet visits ahead, he is on track to make a full recovery and will be available for adoption soon.
For now, though, Ganesh won’t endure another day on the end of a short chain. He is being cared for by his four new friends—Alex Carvalho, Hugo Leiza, Ste Hernandez, and Alejandro Valencia—who have also launched a GoFundMe campaign.
Their goal is to cover Ganesh’s rehabilitation costs and ensure he lives a life filled with happiness and freedom.
