Covered in parasites, he appeared to be a sentient shadow of skin and bone, with mere weeks left to survive.
The couple first spotted him as he approached their car window, clearly pleading for help. Understandably timid and fearful, he had likely endured a harsh past with unkind humans.
Yet, despite his grim condition, there was a glimmer of hope in his wagging tail, signaling his delight at finally receiving attention from caring individuals.
Drawing inspiration from local organizations, Greek Animal Rescue and Diasozo, Aliki and Walter were moved to act. They refused to leave the helpless dog behind, feeling a deep-rooted connection and determination to change his fate.
They rescued him from his bleak existence, feeding him a can of food which he devoured eagerly, before taking him to a veterinary clinic for treatment.
Diagnosed with mange and intestinal parasites, veterinarians agreed that without intervention, his future looked bleak. Fortunately, his story took a hopeful turn as he began the healing process.
Five months of dedicated care saw a remarkable transformation. Named Nelson, the once frail dog recovered physically and emotionally, regaining not just his fur but also his faith in people.
His new life was filled with enthusiasm, evident in his infectious grin and joyful tail wags.
Once fully healed, Nelson made the journey to Canada to reunite with Aliki and Walter, the couple who had saved his life. They embraced him, awed by the dramatic change he had undergone.
