Mudder, an expectant dog, faced such a grim fate when she was heartlessly discarded from a car in a Missouri park by her owner, who drove away without a backward glance.
The Stray Rescue of St. Louis has dealt with countless distressing cases over the years, but when a compassionate passerby contacted them about Mudder, it was especially shocking. The message read: “Hi Stray Rescue. I just saw this dog get dumped. I’m pretty sure she’s pregnant. Can you help her?”
Acting swiftly, a rescue team led by Donna Lochmann was dispatched to the location. The park was known as a frequent site for abandoning animals, yet Mudder’s situation stood out. The team found her gazing sadly at the Mississippi River, her fur soaked and muddy from the rain.
Despite her ordeal, Mudder’s gentle nature shone through. She quickly bonded with Donna and the rescue team, allowing them to leash her without hesitation. Her trust in humans remained remarkably intact, even after being abandoned.
Thanks to the quick-thinking passerby who photographed the license plate of the car that abandoned her, the Stray Rescue will collaborate with law enforcement to identify and hold the responsible party accountable.
Meanwhile, the focus remains on caring for Mudder. With the rescue team, she experienced a far more pleasant car ride than her previous one. Seated comfortably in the front seat, she even posed for a charming photo, marking the beginning of a hopeful new chapter in her life.
The pressing question now is how long it will take for someone to offer Mudder a loving home. Ideally, she needs a foster family to help her through her pregnancy and provide a safe environment for her to raise her puppies.
In a heartfelt video post, the Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared, “Now she’s safe with us. But she needs a foster home where she can finish her pregnancy, give birth, and nurse her babies in peace.”
