Angelina Jolie turned heads at the premiere of Disney’s Dumbo reboot in Hollywood as she donned a stunning backless white Versace gown that highlighted her extensive tattoo collection.

The 43-year-old actress, known for her striking looks and humanitarian efforts, rarely showcases her body art, but she made an exception for this star-studded event.

Attending the premiere with her four youngest children—Zahara, 14; Shiloh, 12; and twins Vivienne and Knox, 10—Jolie appeared to be in high spirits. With 17 tattoos across her body, Jolie has always been open about her love for ink and what it represents in her life.

She previously shared that each tattoo has a special meaning, from personal milestones to symbols of her heritage and relationships.

Jolie’s prominent central back tattoo, often associated with her former marriage to Brad Pitt, was clearly visible. It represents a bond between her and Pitt, though the couple has since parted ways.

Another striking piece is the tattoo on her arm, featuring geographical coordinates marking significant locations, including her children’s birthplaces and Pitt’s birthplace in Oklahoma.

The actress has a rich collection of tattoos that reflect her journey and beliefs. Among her tattoos are:

  • The coordinates of her children’s birthplaces and her ex-husband’s place of birth.
  • A Buddhist spell dedicated to her adopted son Maddox.
  • The lyrics to “Know Your Rights” by The Clash.
  • A Buddhist temple symbolizing mercy.
  • Buddhist mantras for luck and wealth.
  • A design representing the four classical elements: earth, water, air, and fire.
  • A Bengal tiger was granted to signify her Cambodian citizenship in 2005.
  • A tattoo with the Arabic word for “Determination.”

Jolie’s passion for body art has taken her around the world. While filming First They Killed My Father in Cambodia, she traveled to Thailand with her family and received three Sak Yant tattoos from Ajarn Noo Kanpai, a former monk.

These intricate tattoos were etched into her skin using steel rods with surgical steel needles—a process known for its accuracy but also its intense pain.

Reflecting on her tattoos, Jolie once said, “I love them. They’re body art. I don’t think it’s abnormal that someone who spends their life in other skins wants to claim their own by marking things on it that matter to them.”

Despite her careful planning for most tattoos, she humorously admitted that her blue dragon tattoo was the result of a wild night in Amsterdam, where she got a bit carried away at a tattoo parlor.

Jolie’s body art journey underscores her personal transformation and the stories she chooses to tell through her tattoos. It also serves as a reminder of the varied paths individuals take in expressing their identity and experiences.
