In 2016, a group of compassionate young brothers from Detroit demonstrated that even the smallest individuals can make a significant impact.
The four boys, Kenny (13), Kevin (7), Andrew (7), and Kenneth (11), were assisting a neighbor with moving when they stumbled upon a heart-wrenching scene.
Tied to an abandoned house with a bungee cord, a dog was in desperate need of help, appearing starving and full of despair.
The brothers quickly sprang into action, offering the small brown dog some bologna and carried her back to their home.
They looked after her until a representative from Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue could step in. In the meantime, they affectionately named the dog Sparkles.
Theresa Sumpter, the founder of Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, noted how deeply the children cared about the dog’s well-being.
“They genuinely love this dog,” she remarked. “They were very protective and wanted to ensure she would end up in a good place.”
Although the boys were unable to adopt Sparkles, their timely intervention was crucial to her safety and health. This act exemplifies how even young people can make meaningful contributions to their community.
With the support of Detroit Pit Crew, these brothers have rescued several animals in need.
Just days after the boys found Sparkles, her journey toward a brighter future began. Detroit Pit Crew announced on Facebook that Sparkles was being transferred to Pet Tales Rescue to find a new home.
“We are thrilled to share that Sparkles is now vaccinated, spayed, and HW negative! She’s on her way to Pet Tales Rescue in Grand Rapids, MI to find a forever home of her very own! We thank those kind-hearted kids who helped this sweet girl!”
Detroit Pit Crew, composed entirely of volunteers, focuses on rescuing stray animals in Detroit. They rely heavily on donations and the assistance of local residents concerned about animals like Sparkles.
“We are grateful for the community members who alert us when a stray dog needs help.
The streets and unsafe conditions in and around Detroit are damaging to these wonderful animals,” states the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, emphasizing their mission to save as many stray dogs as possible.
