A mother dog and her puppies are lucky to be safe after a cruel act left them tied up in a sack on a deserted dirt road. Fortunately, a compassionate passerby discovered them just in time.
Animal rescuer Josiane Almeida from Lagoa da Prata, Brazil, quickly learned of the distressed animals from a concerned person. She and her husband wasted no time and rushed to the location, capturing the scene on video as they arrived.
Despite her years of experience with animals in dire situations, Josiane was taken aback by the sight. “It was among the most hurtful scenes of abuse I’ve witnessed,” she shared in an online post.
“A sick mother with her puppies, bound in a sack, abandoned far from help. They’ve been there a while.”
As Josiane approached, the mother dog emitted a nervous growl, clearly overwhelmed by her situation.
One puppy had managed to slip out of the bag, standing beside her, while three others remained trapped inside with their mother. However, rescue was close at hand.
Recognizing the mother’s health issues and the puppy’s hunger and weakness, Josiane brought the family home. There, she provided them with much-needed food, water, and rest.
A veterinary visit confirmed all the puppies were in good health, but the mother received a diagnosis of cancer.
Josiane turned to social media for support in securing the mother’s chemotherapy treatment. Friends and supporters generously offered their assistance.
Currently, the mother dog is receiving treatment and recovering with Josiane’s care, along with her puppies. Once they are ready, plans are in place for the puppies to find new homes.
Reflecting on the rescue, Josiane felt a sense of relief and gratitude. “This family was once trapped in a sack,” she wrote.
“But thanks to divine intervention, they are now free and had a wonderful day with me. I’m thankful for this opportunity to save them.”
