Meet Ayla, a puppy who was just two and a half months old when Krista discovered her in desperate need of help.

Ayla was painfully thin, suffering from mange, and struggling to move due to severe malnourishment, leading to visible distress as she crawled in search of food and warmth.

Upon finding Ayla, Krista immediately took her for medical attention. At the veterinary clinic, a thorough examination revealed Ayla’s poor overall health, including signs that she had been so calcium deficient that she had resorted to eating stones.

This deficiency had left her with malformed front legs, causing her to crawl on the ground and inflicting further injuries on herself over time.

Currently, Ayla is receiving care in the hospital where every effort is being made to nurse her back to health. Her recovery is expected to be a lengthy process, potentially taking up to three months.

Nevertheless, the comforting news is that she is now safe and looked after by the dedicated team at Little Steps.

X-rays have shown that Ayla does not have any broken bones, offering hope that she might be able to walk again in the future. A subsequent blood test identified manageable issues: primarily mange and a nutritional deficiency.

Her treatment now includes a calcium supplement and a supportive bandage to aid in correcting her leg deformities.

Krista shared her joy, saying, “My heart is overjoyed to watch our little sweetie spending precious time with Ayla, the happiest little puppy on the planet. She seemed to be overjoyed and delighted to be free to play like a puppy again.”
