Mentee’s situation is sadly all too familiar. Many puppies like him face grave dangers such as being hit by vehicles or succumbing to illness, starvation, or poisoning.
Surprisingly, most of these dogs are not born in the wild; instead, they come from pet owners who fail to spay their dogs.
These pets often give birth twice a year, resulting in unwanted puppies that are typically left on the streets or discarded with the trash.
No one knows Mentee’s exact origin or his life story. Since his rescue, he has started gaining weight and wagging his tail, but he often retreats to a quiet corner, seeming unsure of how to adapt to his new life.
He is undernourished and likely suffering from demodectic mange, a skin condition common in puppies with weakened immune systems.
Despite his difficult circumstances, Mentee quickly captured the heart of his rescuer, who described him as the saddest yet sweetest puppy they have ever met.
At the foster care facility where Mentee now resides, life is far from ideal but significantly better than being on the streets.
Due to the overwhelming number of stray dogs, rescue facilities in Greece are strained, leaving rescuers to come up with makeshift solutions.
Mentee’s foster parent cares for 19 other rescue dogs, providing him with the best home possible under the circumstances.
Mentee displays a remarkable loyalty and affection for humans. His rescuer often found themselves marveling at his gentle nature and saying, “You are lovely.”
